My Style: Final

These are the final pieces I chose for the My Style gallery. These were my initial choices and I decided to use all three. I think they all reflect my personal style and preferences well. None of these pictures really tell a cohesive story, because they were all taken at different times throughout the year, from October to November and January. The main focus of each of these is different, the Portrait’s focus is the covering of the models face by a cloud of smoke. The focus of the water and duck picture is depicting a lone duck. The main focus of the last one is the silhouette of the treetops, but as well as the fade from color to color into the clouds. I think the most prevalent technique I used in all of these pictures is the rule of thirds. In the water photo and the sunset, they both utilize offsetting the main focus which I think helps create for more simplicity, which is part of my style. Also texture in the water photo is very prominent with the waves of the water.I think the thing that makes my portrait a good photo is the focus of the model with the contrast of the blur in the background, and also the fact that it’s different than most basic portraits because the model is facing back and looking to the side and his face is completely covered. The thing that makes the water and duck image good is the great texture, but also the minimalism of the photo as a whole. The thing that makes the sunset image a good photo is the stark contrast of the blacked out trees and the vibrant gradient of the sunset behind it. Honestly, there’s nothing I would change about these photos, I am very satisfied with how they turned out for the gallery. Like I said in my artist statement, photography is capturing memories of my life. All of these pieces relate to my experiences because they were memories in my life. I remember shooting all three of these photos and I think that’s a very special quality of photography that you can capture simple snapshots of your life to look back on…

My Style: 1

If I had to choose photos today to use for the My Style project, It would be these three. I would say that I don’t have a specific specialty in any type of photography like portrait or landscape, I just like to do a little of everything. I want to represent this in my final photos by using a diverse selection of photos. With that said I would for sure keep the portrait and landscape I’ve chosen and try to add a macro shot and another street style photo or just another one of my choice so I have multiple types of photos for the final show. I haven’t decided on keeping the duck photo yet but I think it represents my simplicity well…
